Signs. I am always surprised when, out of the blue, there is a sign that resonates with whatever I am struggling with at the moment. Have you ever noticed that? I think there are many signs I miss because I get so busy I forget to stay alert, but today I was paying attention.
A fan of pencil and paper, I keep an old-fashioned day planner. I use it like the “newly discovered” journaling, but my notes are either pencil or pen and occasionally a red pen. My day planner pages are Franklin Covey Classic, and they have quotes. Tomorrow’s quote is

My recent struggle is a client with a different philosophy about a portion of his business than mine. As my office is the financial center of this client’s business, it is here that inquiries are often made regarding various facets of the business. So, it is here that the rubber meets the road. My tendency is to do as the client wishes; however, at times it flies in the face of my values. So how can I navigate this road between my philosophy and my clients’?
Communication. As in all relationships, communication is key. At all times, this client needs to be kept abreast of his finances and be the final decisionmaker, but this now includes my recommendations. At times, it is as simple as a note attached to my “payment approval” sheet, and other times it requires a face-to-face visit to discuss where each of our views is coming from.
Viewing each client’s business as my own, I have to constantly remind myself that the ultimate decision is with the client.
